THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has announced action in response to the resurgence of a video originally recorded in 2024, depicting an individual in Singapore allegedly stepping on a copy of the Quran, a move deemed offensive to Islam.

The commission received complaints from members of the public regarding the video, which has reappeared on social media platforms and sparked public unease and tensions within Malaysia’s multireligious society.

According to preliminary investigations, the individual involved is believed to be a Singaporean, and the incident reportedly occurred in Singapore.

In light of the circulation, MCMC is working closely with social media platforms, including Threads, Facebook, and TikTok, to ensure appropriate measures are taken, including restricting access and preventing further dissemination within Malaysia.

MCMC emphasised that sharing or recirculating content that offends religious sensitivities and threatens societal harmony is irresponsible and may be subject to legal action under existing laws.

The commission urged the public not to upload, share, or distribute the video in any form.

Members of the public with relevant information are encouraged to report it to MCMC via [https://aduan.mcmc.gov.my](https://aduan.mcmc.gov.my) or to the Royal Malaysia Police for further action.

The commission also attached screenshots of the individual involved as part of its advisory to the public, reiterating the importance of vigilance and responsible conduct online. - March 2, 2026
