DATUK Seri Anwar Ibrahim today revealed that the attempt to overthrow the government, currently under police investigation, not only involves foreign parties colluding with local citizens, but also the direct involvement of prominent Zionist groups.
The Prime Minister said that all parties need to give a little more time for the police to complete their investigation before the information can be shared with the public, if appropriate, including with Members of Parliament.
"Be patient, in a week or two, when the situation is revealed, we can reveal.”
He said this in response to a question from Datuk Seri Shahidan Kasim (PN-Arau) during the Ministerial Question Time session at the Dewan Rakyat today.
The Prime Minister said the attempt to overthrow the government was believed to be driven by a large-scale corruption investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
He said the publication of analytical articles that questioned the credibility of the country's systems and institutions using international media was among the attempts to overthrow the government.
Earlier, police said it was investigating an influential individual and an international media agency over allegations of attempting to overthrow the government and sabotage the country's stability.
The investigation was conducted by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit, Prosecution/Legal Division (D5), Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department under Section 124B of the Penal Code.
Anwar said that the planned conspiracy involving the use of foreign lobbying agencies, bankers and international media agencies began in August 2024 and was to continue until the 16th General Election (GE).
"Based on information received and in the police investigation, as in the reports, records with the companies, bodies and figures in question, there have been six meetings in 2025, both domestically and internationally.
"Then what prompted this activity was the large-scale corruption investigation by the MACC. That is what caused them to be called upon to act using the power of external and domestic influence.
"Their strategy, as mentioned in part earlier, is from the records of the international company in question, which mentions, for example, contacting all foreign media with a strategy to dispute the government's efforts, especially the MACC,” he added.
Position on corruption unchanged
Meanwhile, Anwar also stressed that his position on corruption, including allegations involving MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, remained unchanged.
"All allegations, including those related to share ownership and claims of links to "corporate mafia" activities, must be investigated thoroughly and in accordance with established procedures.
"Investigations are ongoing ... we should not be prejudiced.
"There is no difference between my position then and now. Investigations must follow the rules that have been set," he said.
Anwar also said it was premature to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into allegations involving Azam.
He said the government would first await the completion of the special investigation led by the Attorney General before deciding on any further action.
“The investigation led by the Attorney General (Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar) will be completed this week. So, let's first see what the rational justification for continuing is and in what areas it needs to be examined," he added. – March 3, 2026
