MALAYSIA and Indonesia are set to strengthen bilateral relations, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto agreeing to meet in the near future following discussions on shared regional and domestic priorities.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Anwar Ibrahim said the decision was reached during a telephone conversation with Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday.
The two leaders discussed a range of current issues of mutual interest, exchanging views on efforts to safeguard the welfare of their respective peoples and to preserve stability across the region.
“We also agreed to hold a meeting in the near future to further strengthen the close ties between the two neighbouring countries, which have long been forged in a spirit of brotherhood and strategic cooperation," Anwar said.
He indicated that the forthcoming meeting would serve to further reinforce the longstanding ties between the neighbouring countries, which have traditionally been underpinned by close cultural links and strategic cooperation.
The planned talks are expected to advance collaboration across key sectors as both governments seek to consolidate regional stability and deepen their partnership amid evolving geopolitical and economic challenges. - March 4, 2026
