THE Perak state government has left police to investigate allegations of bullying involving two students at a religious secondary school in Chemor and the alleged assault of an 11-year-old pupil by a teacher in Pengkalan Hulu.

State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah said he would not comment further because both cases were under police investigation.

He said three police reports had reportedly been lodged over the Chemor case, including one by the teacher involved.

Khairudin said the district education office and school had previously taken action in accordance with established procedures and held discussions with the families concerned.

“I understand that a meeting involving the district education office, the school and the families of the students involved has taken place, and a resolution has been reached,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after the 2026 Perak National Sports Day celebration at the Perak State Youth and Sports Complex today.

Khairudin said the school had also implemented the Education Ministry’s 1-3-7 reporting procedure and held discussions aimed at resolving the matter.

Schools were required to comply with standard operating procedures, including filing reports on incidents that could affect pupils’ safety or health, he added.

“The priority at this stage is to safeguard pupils’ welfare and safety so they can continue learning in a peaceful environment and sit their examinations properly,” he said.

On Oct 5, a woman, Nor Azwani Ahamad, 43, alleged that her two sons had been subjected to bullying and violence by a teacher in two separate incidents at a religious secondary school in Chemor in July and August.

She claimed her 18-year-old son had been slapped six times on the cheek by a teacher, while his 17-year-old brother had been slapped and punched by another student in the hostel after refusing to have his hair forcibly cut.

On Oct 2, media reports said an 11-year-old pupil had allegedly been assaulted by a teacher at a school in Pengkalan Hulu. - October 10, 2026
