PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and President of Turkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, have emphasised the urgent need for restraint and measured judgement among all actors involved in the intensifying tensions in the Middle East.
Anwar received a phone call from Erdoğan on Thursday evening during which the two leaders exchanged views on the rapidly deteriorating situation following a series of attacks that have threatened regional stability.
The Prime Minister highlighted the recent killings of senior Iranian figures, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, cautioning that “these events risk plunging the Middle East into serious and prolonged uncertainty,” in a statement posted on social media today.
During the call, Anwar also expressed Malaysia’s solidarity with Turkiye in the wake of ballistic missile activity detected heading towards Turkish airspace.
“The incident underscores how fragile regional security has become at this moment,” he noted.
The Prime Minister commended Erdoğan’s role as a moral voice for the Muslim world and recognised Turkey’s efforts to mediate between Washington and Tehran, facilitating dialogue and diplomatic solutions.
“Malaysia calls on all parties to de-escalate tensions and halt attacks that risk triggering wider instability beyond the Middle East. Dialogue and diplomacy must remain the priority,” Anwar said.
Addressing the Palestinian issue, Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s appreciation for Turkey and other nations condemning Israel’s expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank.
“Malaysia’s stance is clear: these actions by the Zionist regime constitute violations of international law,” he affirmed.
