DATUK Seri Anwar Ibrahim has said he and the government are prepared to face a lawsuit filed by the family of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, stressing that the matter will be addressed through the courts.
The Prime Minister said the government would respond to the legal challenge in accordance with the law after Daim’s wife, Toh Puan Nai’mah Abdul Khalid, and several members of her family initiated court proceedings.
"If she (Nai'mah and her family) takes the matter to court, then the government will respond in court," he said when approached after attending the Prime Minister’s breaking-of-fast event with uniformed bodies at the General Operations Force camp here on Saturday night.
Nai’mah, along with her two sons and their family lawyers, filed an originating summons at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Friday seeking to challenge investigations into them linked to allegations of a plot to topple the government.
The plaintiffs named in the suit are Nai’mah and her sons, Muhammed Amir Zainuddin and Muhammed Amin Zainuddin, as well as family lawyers Amir Zharif Abdullah and Muhammad Nizamuddin Abdul Hamid.
They have named Anwar, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and the Malaysian government as defendants in the case.
In his speech at the event, Anwar also reiterated the government’s commitment to acting firmly against financial leakages and misconduct, saying the administration was determined not to repeat the mistakes of previous leadership that had resulted in major losses to the country.
According to the prime minister, stricter enforcement has enabled the government to significantly increase revenue collection in recent years.
"Therefore, I will not compromise on this issue, it cannot be allowed. That is why we are seeing revenue increase rapidly. Just imagine where our collections went in 2023, 2024 and part of 2025 — where did this RM15 billion come from.
"Now we have collected RM15 billion in just two and a half years. I say this is not popular because those affected are not small players; many have large funds that can influence international media, social media, politicians and various parties," he said.
Anwar also cautioned political actors and the public against being manipulated by vested interests, warning that the country must be protected despite political differences.
"That is why I remind everyone to be vigilant. We must not become tools, because no matter how much we differ in opinion, this is our country and it must be safeguarded from foreign influence, manipulation and conspiracies," he said.
During the event, the prime minister approved an immediate allocation of RM18 million to upgrade the ageing piping and electrical wiring systems at the 2nd Battalion General Operations Force camp in Kulim.
