KUALA LUMPUR – Amid the political drama surrounding Putrajaya, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will not be granting an audience for a week as he is under hospital observation, a palace official said today.

This comes during the bid by opposition leader and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to topple the Perikatan Nasional federal government.

Anwar was supposed to meet the Agong on Tuesday but it was cancelled when the Agong was admitted to the National Heart Institute.

“His Majesty has been advised by his doctors to remain at (hospital) for seven days for observation. So until then, he will not have any meetings,” palace comptroller Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin told Reuters.

The Agong can appoint a prime minister who in his view is likely to command a majority in Dewan Rakyat. He could also dissolve Parliament and trigger elections on the advice of the prime minister.

Yesterday, rumours of Umno MPs lining up behind Anwar have blindsided party members and faction leaders, insiders tell The Vibes.

On Wednesday, sources say Anwar had the backing of 15 Umno lawmakers, cementing the fall of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration. – The Vibes, September 25, 2020
