FORMER Padang Terap MP Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid has rejected allegations made by Kedah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor that a former representative in Kuala Nerang owns 300 acres of land in the area, describing the claim as baseless and damaging to UMNO’s reputation.
Mahdzir said the accusation raised serious questions because the individual referred to in the statement was never clearly identified.
Without naming anyone, he argued, the allegation risked casting suspicion on several former elected representatives who had served in the constituency.
“Who exactly is he referring to? In Kuala Nerang there are six former representatives who are still alive – myself, Datuk Seri Ghazali, Datuk Badrul Hisham, Datuk Syed Razak, Datuk Syed Sobri, Datuk Abdul Latif Mat Saman and Kama Noriah,” he said.
“So, who is he referring to as the person who owns the 300 acres of land?”
Mahdzir, who also serves as chairman of the Kedah UMNO liaison committee, said remarks of that nature should not be made publicly without clear evidence, as they could tarnish the reputation of all former representatives who had served the area.
He added that such statements were particularly inappropriate during the month of Ramadan, warning that vague accusations could lead to misunderstanding and slander.
“If you want to accuse someone, say it clearly. Do not make it seem as though everyone is being accused,” he said.
“This is the fasting month, there is no need to speak ill of others. For me, statements like this have gone too far.”
The dispute follows the circulation of a video on social media featuring excerpts from Muhammad Sanusi’s speech during a recent Aidilfitri contribution ceremony for the poor at Wisma Darul Aman.
In the video, the Kedah Chief Minister questioned how a former representative in Kuala Nerang could allegedly possess 300 acres of land, asking whether the property had been inherited or obtained through other means, while also referring to the existence of a large service centre built on the site. - March 14, 2026
