A FAMILY of six escaped unharmed after their home was gutted in a fire at Kampung Gong Kijang near Kuala Terengganu last evening.
Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Zaharim Yusof said emergency services were alerted at 4.25 pm, prompting the deployment of three fire engines and 16 personnel from the Jalan Kota Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.
He said firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control within 16 minutes of their arrival, at 4.39 pm.
“The semi-permanent house, measuring 40 by 60 feet, was estimated to be 90 per cent destroyed,” he said in a statement.
Mohd Zaharim added that no injuries or fatalities were reported, and that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of semi-permanent structures to rapid fire spread, even as prompt emergency response helped prevent loss of life. - March 23, 2026
