THE government is considering additional measures, including setting more flexible work regulations, such as the phased implementation of work from home (WFH) for civil servants.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the approach aims to ensure the continuity of the public service while adapting working methods to current needs.
Apart from the public sector, he also suggested that the private sector implement the same method as has been practised by several companies and banking institutions.
"Civil servants will be able to gradually and selectively work from home.
"I believe, God willing, apart from the public sector, we also urge the private sector to implement it, as several companies and banks have done," he said.
He said this when delivering a Special Message regarding the country's strategic steps in strengthening preparedness to face the global energy crisis following the conflict in West Asia, today.
On behalf of the government, Anwar, who is also the Minister of Finance, stressed that efforts to maintain discipline and avoid waste and leakage will continue to be strengthened.
He said the steps taken are essential to ensure that the country's economic growth momentum remains stable despite facing global challenges.
"On behalf of the government, God willing, we will continue to maintain discipline, avoid waste, leakage and ensure that Malaysia's economic growth momentum is quite extraordinary and exceptional because after seeing the decline that has occurred in the world.
"We see that Malaysia is still gaining traction, becoming a very active centre of investment.
"So, we pray, let this country remain peaceful, let the people, both in the public and private sectors, work diligently and earnestly, and let us increase our economic capabilities.
“In every test, challenge from Allah SWT and the situation that is happening in the world, there is still an opportunity to improve and increase our capabilities," he said. – March 26, 2026
