If MIC remains silent, it is deemed they rejected our offer – PN sec-gen

PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan emphasised that PN will consider MIC to have declined to be part of the coalition if no official response is received soon.

According to him, PN has given MIC time to confirm whether to accept or reject the offer to join, but that period will not be allowed to drag on.

"MIC can reply to the letter, or they can make a statement, but if there is no immediate response, we assume they have refused.

"We are just surprised that MIC says that for now they are staying with BN (Barisan Nasional), we have to ask MIC, what do they mean?" he said.

Takiyuddin revealed that MIC, through its president, had submitted an official letter dated November 15, 2025 to the then PN Chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, to apply to be accepted as a member of the coalition.

"If they say they did not apply, please prove it.

"I have the letter," he said.

He explained that the application was discussed at the PN meeting on December 9, 2025, before being approved, thus making MIC the fifth member party after PAS, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Gerakan and MIPP.

He added that the decision was later confirmed in a meeting on March 14, before the official offer letter was sent to MIC on March 23.

However, Takiyuddin said that MIC, through its Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting on March 25, decided not to accept the offer, although no official response was submitted to PN.

"If they don't want to accept, that's fine. PN is not for sale. Anyone who wants to join must apply, and those who don't want to, that's their choice," he said.

He said that MIC's decision did not affect PN's strength, since the coalition had previously managed to win 74 parliamentary seats without the party's participation.

"They only have one Member of Parliament, so it doesn't have a big impact on PN.

"If they want to stay with BN, that's their choice, and PN has no problem," he said.

Meanwhile, Takiyuddin informed that PN has also received several applications from other political parties interested in joining the coalition and is currently in the review process. 

It was earlier reported that MIC has not yet finalised any decision for the party to join PN.

MIC Deputy President, Datuk Seri M Saravanan, said that any decision on the matter can only be determined by the party's CWC.
