OUTGOING Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has said he plans to maintain an active lifestyle after stepping down next month, while rejecting suggestions that he may pursue a political career following the end of his tenure.
His contract is due to expire on 12 May.
Azam told reporters that he has yet to finalise any post-retirement plans but intends to remain physically active, including through regular exercise.
“I remain in good health and will continue to stay active through activities such as jogging and cycling,” he was quoted as saying after attending an event in Negeri Sembilan.
He also moved to dismiss speculation linking him to politics, stressing that his long career has been firmly rooted in public service.
“I am a public servant. My duty has always been to serve the rakyat,” he added.
Azam, who first assumed the role in March 2020 and has since received multiple contract extensions, also expressed gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim for the confidence shown in him throughout his tenure.
Looking ahead to the leadership transition at the anti-graft agency, he urged MACC personnel to remain disciplined and united, and to support the incoming chief commissioner.
He said he hoped internal differences within the organisation would be set aside as the institution continued to strengthen its integrity and performance under new leadership. - April 26, 2026
