FULL round-the-clock operations of the Aerotrain system at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA T1) are expected to resume by the end of this month, subject to final approval by regulators, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Loke said all required technical tests have been completed by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, with a full compliance report currently being finalised for submission to the Land Public Transport Agency.

“Once it is verified by APAD, we expect the Aerotrain to resume its 24-hour service by the end of May.

“In fact, it is still running now, although there are several hours in the night for track maintenance,” he told reporters after launching the MyKLIA TravelCard and My Putrajaya Travel Cards on Tuesday.

The Aerotrain system, which connects terminals at KLIA T1, has faced repeated technical disruptions since it resumed operations in July following a two-year suspension for major upgrades and rectification works.

Despite its restart, the system has continued to experience reliability issues, prompting Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad to introduce a comprehensive action plan last October to stabilise operations.

As part of interim measures, a full shuttle-bus replacement service was deployed during off-peak hours between 11pm and 5am to facilitate maintenance, inspections and repair works.

A concurrent shuttle-bus service also operated alongside the Aerotrain between 5am and 11pm to ensure continuous passenger movement during the stabilisation period.

Since resuming service in July 2025, the Aerotrain has carried more than 6.55 million passengers and completed nearly 95,000 trips, according to airport operator data. - May 5, 2026
