KELANTAN State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohamed Farid Mohamed Zawawi has described his expulsion from Bersatu as a positive development, saying it gives him “freedom” from what he claims is a party that has eroded unity among Muslims and supported leaders allegedly tainted by corruption.

In a Facebook post, Mohamed Farid said the decision marked a new chapter for him politically and personally.

He said the move would allow him to continue what he described as his struggle for moral values and religious duty.

“I will continue the struggle of enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong. I will continue to uphold Islam in Kelantan and Malaysia, elevate the dignity of the Malay race in this Nusantara region, and raise Malaysia’s name to greater heights and honour.

“I also pray for Allah’s blessings to lighten all the burdens that I will continue to carry together with my close companion, who has long stood united in voice and spirit with me, Larut Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin,” BH cited him saying.

The expulsion was confirmed in a notice issued by Bersatu disciplinary board chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan, stating that the Kok Lanas assemblyman had breached Clause 9.1.4 of the party constitution as well as its Code of Ethics and Conduct.

Alongside Mohamed Farid, Wan Meor Safwat Naqiuddin Shamsuddin was also expelled from the party.

Separately, Bukit Bunga assemblyman Mohd Almidi Jaafar and Mersing MP Muhammad Islahuddin Abas were suspended for two election terms.

The disciplinary actions mark one of the latest internal developments within Bersatu, as the party continues to manage internal disputes involving several elected representatives. - May 12, 2026
