POLICE have arrested a former sexual offender suspected of abducting, confining, abusing and sodomising a teenage boy in Bukit Kemuning, in a case that has reignited concerns over repeat offenders and child safety.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that the 41-year-old suspect was detained during a raid at a rented room in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday evening.

The suspect, who was released from prison in April last year after serving an 18-year sentence for previous violent sexual crimes, is currently being held under remand while investigations continue.

“The first remand order will end on May 19 (tomorrow) and if investigations are still incomplete, police will apply for an extension. So, give the police space to complete the investigation. God willing, I am confident we will obtain positive results from the arrest.

“The suspect was arrested in his room because he worked as a debt collector and moved around using various forms of public transportation,” he told a press conference today.

Investigators believe the suspect acted alone and, at this stage, have found no evidence suggesting the existence of additional victims.

“The victim is believed to have been selected at random. The suspect also has a criminal record involving imprisonment previously and checks found that he was released in April last year,” Shazeli said.

Earlier reports stated that the suspect had previously been convicted over offences involving rape, wrongful confinement and robbery against women, leading to his imprisonment in 2008.

The latest incident allegedly took place on May 12, when police received information at around noon after the 14-year-old victim was rescued by nearby residents following approximately three hours of confinement inside a house.

Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect allegedly approached the teenager under false pretences, initially engaging him in conversation before offering a mobile internet package on condition that the boy assist in carrying items into the residence.

Police believe the victim was subsequently confined and assaulted inside the property before neighbours intervened. - May 18, 2026
