POLICE have confirmed that a bomb threat targeting a prominent building in the capital was a hoax after a large-scale overnight security operation found no explosive device at the premises.
Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said authorities received an emergency report at 9.09pm from a security guard stationed at the building.
According to police, the guard informed officers that an e-mail had been sent to the building’s customer service centre claiming that an individual had planted a bomb on the 23rd floor of the north tower.
“The security guard informed us that he had received an e-mail sent to the customer service centre stating that an individual had placed a bomb on the 23rd floor of the building’s north tower,” he said in a statement today.
The threat prompted an immediate response from several specialist police units, including the Bomb Disposal Unit, K9 Detection Unit and Forensic Unit, which carried out an extensive search operation at the scene.
Chang Hook said investigations later confirmed that the threat was false.
“The Bomb Disposal Unit, K9 Detection Unit and Forensic Unit were then deployed to the location to conduct a search and found that it was a false threat,” he said.
Police are now investigating the case under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Commission Act 1998 and Section 507 of the Penal Code, which relate to improper use of network facilities and criminal intimidation through anonymous communication. - May 24, 2026
