KUALA LUMPUR – Despite the ongoing floods in the peninsula’s east coast, Covid-19 hospitals there are able to cope with the twin crises, said the Health Ministry.

Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a WhatsApp message to The Vibes, said the situation is being monitored.

“So far, we are managing. We are monitoring (the situation) closely.”

Meanwhile, the National Operations Management Centre – the agency that discloses information on movement controls to the public – said the National Security Council (NSC) has yet to issue new standard operating procedures (SOPs) for flood victims and temporary relief centres in the east coast.

A spokesman said the ministry has not issued statements regarding the Covid-19 hospitals in Kelantan, Pahang, Terengganu and Johor.

“There are no new updates from NSC. So, the SOPs are still the same. We have not received any statements from the Health Ministry either regarding the Covid-19 hospitals there.”

The council published a 40-second video animation on how to prepare for floods, on its Telegram page at 1.20pm today.

The video advises the public to be alert to emergency announcements, take note of the nearest evacuation centres, and prepare enough food and supplies. – The Vibes, January 4, 2021
