AMK leader urges Rafizi to explain RM8.6 million ‘Bersama’ party takeover claims

FRESH controversy has erupted around former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli after a senior youth leader from PKR urged him to publicly explain allegations surrounding the alleged RM8.6 million acquisition of Parti Bersama Malaysia.

Angkatan Muda Keadilan information chief Danish Hairudin said clarification was necessary to prevent speculation and allegations involving foreign funding and betrayal of national interests from spreading further.

According to Danish, questions surrounding the source of funds allegedly linked to the takeover or purchase of the political party must be answered transparently if public concerns are to be addressed.

“However, I do not wish to comment further on the Bersama party itself. That is his right, whether he wants to buy it, rent it monthly or take it over for free.

“As Rafizi himself stated in his podcast, the president of the Bersama party is Syukri Razab, who was also his former officer at the ministry.

“Therefore, the question should more appropriately be directed to the president of the Bersama party himself so that a direct explanation can be given,” he said in a statement.

The issue gained traction after Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil reposted a social media video alleging that Rafizi had “purchased” Bersama for RM8.6 million.

In the video, the unidentified speaker questioned the source of the funds and accused Rafizi of harbouring ulterior motives against People's Justice Party.

The allegations have since expanded into wider claims involving possible foreign financial influence in domestic politics.

Previously, Sekretariat Gerak Gempur Media Sosial Rakyat political bureau chairman Shahbudin Embun described the foreign funding allegations as serious, warning that external interference in Malaysia’s political landscape could threaten national sovereignty.

The controversy comes as Rafizi is already facing scrutiny from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission over alleged abuse of power and irregularities linked to a RM1.1 billion investment arrangement involving the Economy Ministry and UK-based semiconductor company Arm Holdings under a strategic industry cooperation agreement.

No formal charges have been announced against Rafizi in relation to either matter. - May 26, 2026
