THE Selangor State Government has welcomed the agreement reached on the proposed location of the Petaling Jaya public hospital construction site announced by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the decision was reached following a coordination meeting on May 14 involving federal agencies, the state government and local authorities (PBT).

According to him, the development reflects close cooperation between the federal and state governments in strengthening public health facilities, especially to meet the needs of the growing population in the Petaling district.

“Efforts to identify a suitable site for a public hospital in Petaling Jaya have been actively pursued by the state government since 2018, taking into account the population growth in the Petaling district, which has now reached approximately 2.3 million people.

“In Petaling Jaya alone, the population is estimated to exceed 800,000 people,” he said in a statement today.

Currently, residents around the Petaling district rely on existing facilities, including the Sungai Buloh Hospital, which has a capacity of 1,037 beds; Shah Alam Hospital (490 beds); University of Malaya Medical Centre (946 beds) under the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT).

Amirudin said the state government was also working closely with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to address the issue of congestion and access to public hospitals in several other areas in Selangor.

He said that Cyberjaya Hospital and Tanjong Karang Hospital would be completed in 2022 with a capacity of 288 beds and 150 beds, respectively, as a result of cooperation between the MOH and the state government regarding land matters.

In addition, he said, the Hospital Kapar, which has a capacity of 312 beds, is expected to be completed by the end of this year and will help reduce congestion at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital Klang and Shah Alam Hospital.

According to him, the proposed location for the Petaling Jaya Hospital is seen as suitable in terms of population access, development capacity, land cost and its location near population centres.

He said the 500-bed hospital is also planned to be built vertically, like Ampang Hospital, to optimise land use and development costs.

“A site visit by the Ministry of Health will be carried out in the near future with the participation of state government agencies, including the State Economic Planning Unit, Petaling Jaya City Council and Petaling District Office.

“The Selangor State Government is ready to facilitate and expedite land transactions so that the Petaling Jaya Hospital project can be realised for the benefit of the residents of Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Puchong,” he added. – May 27, 2026
