A ONE-MONTH-OLD baby boy was thrown out of a moving vehicle following a road accident on the Alor Gajah–Melaka Tengah–Jasin (AMJ) Highway near the Petronas station at Balai Panjang in Malaka last night.

In the 10pm incident, the infant was travelling in a Proton Saga with his parents when the vehicle was involved in a collision shortly after exiting the petrol station to join the AMJ Highway.

Melaka Tengah district police acting chief Superintendent Halim Abas said initial investigations found that the baby was being held by his mother, who was seated in the rear passenger seat, at the time of the crash.

“The baby, who was being cradled by his mother in the back seat, is believed to have been thrown out of the vehicle and was found in a grassy area near the scene,” he said in a statement today.

He said the impact left the infant with swelling to the head, while the mother, aged 25, sustained back pain.

“The driver was not injured, while the 25-year-old woman, who is the baby’s mother, suffered back pain.

“Both the baby and his mother were taken to Melaka Hospital for further treatment but were discharged after their condition was reported to be stable,” he said.

Halim said police had identified the vehicle believed to have been involved in the collision and investigations were ongoing.

“The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added.

Members of the public with information on the incident have been urged to contact investigating officer Inspector Ahmad Adhwa Jamal at 011-2690 5852 to assist in the probe. - June 2, 2026
