King Sultan Ibrahim urges new MACC chief to uphold highest integrity in fight against corruption

HIS Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has reminded the newly appointed Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman to uphold the highest standards of integrity in carrying out his responsibilities.

In a statement shared on the Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar official Facebook page, His Majesty emphasised that the fight against corruption must be pursued consistently, firmly and without fear or favour, in order to safeguard public integrity and strengthen the rule of law.

The King’s counsel was delivered during an audience granted to Abdul Halim at Istana Negara on Tuesday, where the new MACC chief formally presented himself following his appointment.

Sultan Ibrahim stressed that the effectiveness of anti-corruption enforcement depends on the moral strength and integrity of those entrusted with the responsibility, underscoring the importance of maintaining public confidence in national institutions.

Abdul Halim was officially appointed as MACC chief commissioner with the consent of the King on April 25, with his tenure taking effect from May 13. He succeeded Tan Sri Azam Baki, who previously held the post.

The appointment of Abdul Halim, a former High Court judge, marks a continuation of leadership transition within Malaysia’s primary anti-corruption enforcement agency at a time when governance and institutional accountability remain key national priorities.

His Majesty’s reminder comes amid ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen anti-corruption frameworks and reinforce the independence and effectiveness of enforcement agencies in safeguarding public trust. - June 4, 2026
