THE official notice confirming the dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly will be submitted to the Election Commission (EC) today, formally setting in motion preparations for a state election.
State Assembly Speaker Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman said he would sign the notification before it is delivered to the commission, following the royal consent granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, yesterday.
“After I sign it, the notice will be sent to the Election Commission today as well. It is up to the EC to act on the notice to determine the appropriate time for the State Election (PRN) to be held,” he said in remarks to Bernama.
The submission of the notice is a procedural step confirming the formal dissolution, which was announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and takes effect today, paving the way for elections to be held within a constitutional 60-day period.
The move comes after the state government received royal assent, marking the beginning of the electoral process that will see voters return to the polls for the second state election since 2023.
At the last Negeri Sembilan state election in 2023, the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional alliance secured a governing majority in the 36-seat assembly.
Pakatan Harapan won 17 seats, Barisan Nasional secured 14, while Perikatan Nasional obtained five seats.
Negeri Sembilan is now the second state to dissolve its legislative assembly for fresh elections, following Johor earlier this week, as Malaysia enters a new round of closely watched state-level political contests. - June 5, 2026
