DATUK Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said it would be 'arrogant' to deny any race or political party that participated in the democratic process, a role in the administration after they contested and gained support through the democratic process.

The prime minister stressed that the nation's constitutional principles remain its foundation, regardless of leadership changes.

"The country's democratic system requires leaders to respect the people's mandate, and every community and political party that participates in elections deserves recognition.

"Governments may come and go, but the constitutional framework remains our guide," he said at the Communications Ministry's monthly assembly today.

He said everyone has their personal sentiments and views, but one must respect every community and race.

“We did not choose to be born Malay, Chinese or Indian, and we did not choose our skin colour.

"While Malaysians are majority Malay, we have always been clear that no community should be marginalised.

"The Quran teaches that God created us as different peoples and tribes so that we may know and understand one another," he said.

Yesterday, Johor Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said he would rather not be the Menteri Besar than "sit at the same table" with DAP.

"Sometimes, in the heat of politics, people go too far as personal sentiments and convictions, shaped by their backgrounds and experiences, come into play.

"These attitudes devoid of humanity should be avoided," said Anwar.

When it comes to who should stand alongside the Prime Minister in government and the Cabinet, he said we must respect every individual regardless of race or ethnicity.

"We have always been clear that no community should be marginalised," he added. - June 8, 2026
