KUALA LUMPUR – Machang MP Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub has resigned as chairman of Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) today amid the political turmoil within the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
In a statement, Jazlan, who is a member of the Umno Supreme Council, said his resignation will take effect Wednesday.
“I submitted my resignation letter to Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Khairuddin Aman Razali in his office just now.”
Jazlan, who is also the Kelantan Umno chief, succeeded Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh and was appointed to the post effective last April 8.
“I would like to express my appreciation for the cooperation given by the board members, management and all MPOB staff throughout my service with this agency.
“I pray and hope that MPOB continues to progress and remain competitive by helping the people involved in palm oil commodities, including its stakeholders,” said Jazlan.
According to Astro Awani, he said he would resign as MPOB chairman in line with his principle of non-cooperation with the PN government.
He added that action will be taken if the PN government fails to seek the consent of the Agong to dissolve Parliament by the end of this month.
He said that he took up the appointment as chairman in July last year because there was a quota to be filled by MPs that supported the government. – The Vibes, January 4, 2021
