HIS Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has revoked Mohd Isa Abdul Samad's Darjah Panglima Setia Mahkota award, stripping his ‘Tan Sri’ title effective June 8.
The Prime Minister's Office said in a statement that the revocation of the award was related to the offences committed by Isa Samad, who is currently serving a prison sentence at Sungai Buloh Prison, Selangor.
The statement said that the removal complies with Paragraphs XXV and XXVIA of the Darjah Yang Mulia Setia Mahkota Malaysia Statute. The rules allow revocation following a criminal conviction.
It also said that the action aligns with Sultan Ibrahim's royal decree delivered on September 7, 2024. The decree occurred during a federal awards ceremony at Istana Negara.
Last February, the Felda Chairman was ordered to serve a six-year prison sentence after the Federal Court returned his conviction and sentence on corruption charges involving RM3.09 million.
A three-judge Federal Court panel led by Datuk Nordin Hassan allowed the prosecution’s appeal, thus overturning Mohd. Isa’s acquittal on nine corruption charges.
The panel of judges returned the High Court’s decision on 3 Feb 2021, which sentenced him to six years in prison, as well as a fine of RM15.45 million or two years in prison if he failed to pay.
The former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar was charged with receiving RM3.09 million in bribes from then Gegasan Abadi Properties Sdn Bhd (GAPSB) board member Ikhwan Zaidel, through his former special officer Muhammad Zahid Md Arip. – June 11, 2026
