Hamzah Zainudin set to make announcement at “Malaysia Reset” convention in Kelantan

FORMER opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin is poised to make a significant announcement regarding his political future at a convention in Kelantan this weekend, in what is being closely watched as a potential turning point in his post-party trajectory.

The event, titled the “Malaysia Reset Convention”, will be held at the Kota Harmoni Expo Site in Tanah Merah on Saturday at 12.30pm.

Hamzah has framed the initiative as a broader call for national reflection and unity, arguing that countries eventually reach moments where citizens must decide whether to remain divided or return to fundamental principles through a process of “reset”.

“Reset now for the future,” Sinar Daily cited him saying briefly on Wednesday.

Ahead of the gathering, Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan indicated that supporters of Hamzah are expected to assemble in significant numbers to hear what he described as a new political direction under the former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu)deputy president.

He suggested that attendance at the convention could exceed 10,000 participants, reflecting growing interest in the movement’s next steps.

Meanwhile, Indera Mahkota MP Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah has hinted that a new political party may be unveiled during or shortly after the convention, potentially marking a formalised structure for Hamzah’s emerging political bloc.

He said: “We all support Hamzah. Membership in this new party will only be announced after the official declaration of its formation.”

The “Reset” initiative was first launched on 14 February by Hamzah alongside several Members of Parliament and grassroots supporters, shortly after his expulsion and revocation of membership from Bersatu.

He has since signalled his willingness to lead the movement under a new national consensus framework.

Should no new party materialise, Hamzah—who currently sits in the Dewan Rakyat as an Independent MP alongside other former party members—will continue his parliamentary role outside formal party structures, sitting near Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. - June 11, 2026
