PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has reaffirmed that the opposition coalition does not belong to any single party in an absolute sense, stressing instead that it was formed through a consensus among its founding components.
In a statement today, he said PAS is among the founding parties of PN and that he himself is one of the official signatories to the coalition’s establishment.
“Any interpretation regarding the status, position and direction of PN must refer to the PN Constitution and be decided through the coalition’s official channels,” he said.
He added that the immediate priority is to ensure PN is managed in an orderly, principled and responsible manner in the interest of the people and the country.
The statement comes amid ongoing debate over the status and direction of the opposition coalition following PAS’ announcement on Monday that it had ended its cooperation with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
Following that development, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin expressed regret over PAS’ move and reiterated that Bersatu would remain within PN while strengthening its core political agenda.
However, tensions escalated further when 13 Bersatu Members of Parliament issued a joint statement urging the party to either leave PN or be expelled from the coalition in the wake of PAS’ decision.
The MPs claimed PAS’ move was not unexpected, citing what they described as the arrogance and attitude of Muhyiddin and Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali. - June 11, 2026
