POLICE have assured the public that security arrangements are in place ahead of a planned demonstration outside TikTok Malaysia’s headquarters in Sunway Velocity, while warning participants that strict action will be taken against anyone who violates the law.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said authorities had already received official notification from the organisers regarding the gathering, which is expected to begin at 10am on Saturday.
He stressed that ensuring public safety remains the police force’s primary responsibility whenever public assemblies are held.
“As usual, the police will ensure the safety of all parties. Therefore, if a gathering of this nature is organised, safety must remain the priority.”
“There will be no tolerance if violence, aggression or breaches of the law occur. Police will take the sternest possible action,” he said.
Fadil made the remarks when approached by reporters after officiating the Kuala Lumpur Police Traffic Safety Advocacy Awareness Programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Alam Damai in Cheras on Thursday.
The police chief also reminded those intending to participate in the gathering to conduct themselves responsibly and ensure that all activities remain within the boundaries of the law.
“Ensure that whatever is done and planned does not breach or violate the law,” he said.
The planned event, known as the “Gegar TikTok Rally”, is being organised by businessman Albert Tei, who said the gathering is intended to express dissatisfaction over what organisers claim are restrictions on Malaysians’ right to freedom of expression on the platform.
The protest comes amid broader discussions surrounding content moderation, platform governance and the balance between online regulation and free speech on social media platforms.
While police have given assurances regarding public security, authorities have reiterated that any unlawful conduct during the gathering will be dealt with firmly in accordance with existing laws. - June 12, 2026
