THE appearance of a man dressed as a security force member and carrying a suspected imitation weapon in Kepong, near here, has sparked concern after the footage went viral on social media.

Gombak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ibrahim Husin, said police received a report regarding the viral video at 4.31 pm yesterday.

"The video shows a man of uncertain race wearing clothing resembling security forces and possessing suspected imitation weapons.

"The incident was reported around Taman Bukit Desa, Kepong," he said in a statement today.

Ibrahim said the case is being investigated under Section 140 of the Penal Code for wearing soldier, sailor or airman's clothing.

He said the case is also being investigated under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 for suspected possession of imitation weapons.

He said the public who saw or have information regarding the incident are asked to contact Inspector Prakash Sithambaram at 012-2940827 or the Gombak IPD Operations Room at 03-61262222 to assist in the investigation.

The viral video footage shows an individual in uniform walking in the middle of the road while holding an object resembling a weapon.

The incident took place at night in a relatively quiet area with few vehicles, with the route only lit by street lights and several vehicles parked on the side of the road. – June 23, 2026
