INVESTIGATORS believe a personal dispute involving emotional and financial issues triggered the murder of a female private higher education student whose body was found inside a condominium in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya.
Police confirm the victim and the suspect were known to each other and shared a romantic relationship.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said preliminary investigations showed the victim and the foreign male suspect, both believed to be in their 20s, were acquainted and had been in a relationship.
"At this stage, we believe the motive for the incident stems from personal issues involving emotions, feelings and daily expenses," Sinar Harian reported him saying during a press conference at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters on Wednesday.
Shazeli said investigators are focusing on the foreign national who was arrested at the scene shortly after the victim's body was discovered.
"So far, there is no indication that any other individual was involved in the incident. However, police are not ruling out any possibility until investigations have been fully completed," he said.
He said police had seized several exhibits, including the weapon believed to have been used in the killing.
"Preliminary examinations by the forensic team found several injuries on the victim's body," he said.
Investigators are also seeking further confirmation from the private higher education institution regarding the victim's duration of study, academic programme and the nature of her relationship with the suspect.
"So far, we have recorded statements from several neighbours and witnesses who were near the scene to assist the investigation," Shazeli said.
Police received a report on the incident at 11.03am on Tuesday before discovering the woman, believed to be in her 20s, dead inside the condominium with multiple injuries.
The foreign male suspect, also believed to be in his 20s, was arrested at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. - June 24, 2026
