SIX male students aged 17 have been arrested by police to assist investigations into a bullying incident involving a 14-year-old student at a school in Muar, Johor, which reportedly took place in May.

Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said all suspects were detained in the Muar and Alor Gajah areas in Melaka between 1.30am and 2.12am following a police report lodged on Tuesday afternoon.

He said the victim claimed he was assaulted, including being punched in the chest and having his head struck, resulting in a black eye, while also being forced to hand over money to the suspects.

“As a result of the incident, the victim experienced emotional distress and trauma, which led him to decide to stop attending school,” Media Selangor cited him saying.

“Preliminary investigations found that the incident is believed to have occurred because the victim was said to have been using vape obtained from another student,” he added.

Ab Rahaman said all six suspects had no prior criminal records and have been remanded until tomorrow to assist investigations under Sections 323 and 507B of the Penal Code.

He further stated that police are also investigating possible negligence by hostel wardens and school management, as the incident allegedly occurred in a boarding school setting under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

He also urged other students who may have been victims of the same group to come forward and lodge police reports to assist the investigation. - June 28, 2026
