THE Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), the Royal Malaysia Police and Shopee have launched a nationwide consumer awareness campaign aimed at reducing online shopping scams and strengthening confidence in Malaysia's e-commerce ecosystem.
The "Jom Beli Selamat!: Click Without Worry" campaign was unveiled alongside the Shopee Seller Summit 2026, reflecting a joint government-industry effort to promote safer online transactions while supporting the continued growth of the country's digital economy.
In a statement, KPDN Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the government remains committed to building a secure, trusted and progressive e-commerce ecosystem through a whole-of-nation approach involving government agencies, digital platform providers, online entrepreneurs and consumers.
He said the Shopee Seller Summit 2026 and the accompanying safety campaign demonstrate the importance of strategic collaboration in ensuring all stakeholders benefit from the significant opportunities created by the expanding e-commerce sector.
The minister said the summit also underscores Shopee's commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of local entrepreneurs by equipping them with knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in the digital economy.
The programme features knowledge-sharing sessions covering emerging market trends, artificial intelligence (AI), digital marketing, content development, logistics innovation and business operations management, with the aim of enhancing the capabilities, productivity and competitiveness of Malaysia's micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
A key component of this year's summit is the launch of the "Jom Beli Selamat!: Click Without Worry" campaign, developed through collaboration between KPDN, the police and Shopee to raise public awareness of safe online shopping practices.
The initiative focuses on consumer education by providing guidance on identifying common scam tactics, adopting best practices for online transactions, using secure and trusted platforms, and accessing official complaint channels when problems arise.
The campaign is intended to cultivate safer online purchasing habits while reducing the risk of consumers falling victim to fraud.
Armizan also called on all e-commerce platform operators to continue strengthening consumer protection mechanisms, enhance compliance with existing regulations and deepen cooperation with enforcement agencies to combat fraud and misconduct in the digital marketplace.
He said such initiatives are essential to reinforcing consumer confidence in Malaysia's e-commerce ecosystem while supporting the MADANI Government's broader goals of strengthening the domestic economy, improving the competitiveness of MSMEs and ensuring the benefits of digital economic growth are shared more inclusively across society. - July 2, 2026
