The Islamist party opts to table targeted policy proposals for the Johor state election based on local needs in constituencies it is contesting, according to its deputy president - July 4, 2026

PAS will not issue a full-scale manifesto for the Johor state election, choosing instead to focus on constituency-specific policy offers tailored to local needs, its deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said.

He said the party’s priority is to function as a credible opposition rather than to present a governing blueprint, given the limited number of seats it is contesting.

“I think the party does not need to present a manifesto. A manifesto is for those who intend to take over the state government. Generally, we are only contesting 11 out of 56 seats.

“Specifically, there are several offers made in certain areas. We take into account the needs of voters in those areas to solve problems there.

“So, I think what is important is our role in the state assembly, to act as a check and balance to the state government administration,” he said.

Tuan Ibrahim said this at a press conference after officiating the PAS Pasir Mas divisional general meeting, which was also attended by Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

He also described UMNO as still politically strong in the state, amid ongoing competition among major coalitions in the Johor election.

Earlier reports indicated that PAS is contesting 11 seats in the 16th Johor state election.

Johor will go to the polls on 11 July, with early voting scheduled for 7 July. - July 4, 2026
