FORMER Bersatu assemblywoman Alwiyah Talib is on course to retain the Endau state seat after switching to Barisan Nasional (BN), according to unofficial results.

As of 7.30 pm, Alwiyah, contesting on a BN ticket after rejoining UMNO last month, had secured 3,483 votes, ahead of Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Hasnul Hakimi Hussien with 2,237 votes. Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Saiful Nizam Samat garnered 786 votes, while Parti Aspirasi Sains Malaysia (ASLI) candidate Jati Awang polled 274 votes.

The Endau contest attracted considerable attention after Alwiyah, the incumbent assemblywoman who won the seat for Bersatu in the 2022 state election, left the party to rejoin UMNO just weeks before the polls.

She was subsequently named BN’s candidate in a move that surprised many, given the short time between her return and nomination.

If the unofficial results hold, Alwiyah would successfully defend Endau for a third consecutive term, this time under the BN banner after previously winning the constituency for UMNO in 2018 and Bersatu in 2022. – July 11, 2026
