A SOCIAL media influencer was charged at the Sessions Court in Kangar today with the rape of an underage girl in June.

The accused, Muhammad Iman Hazriq Azizan, 23, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out by a court interpreter before Judge Sharifah Norazlita Syed Salim Idid.

According to the charge sheet, he is accused of raping the victim, who was 14 years and ten months old at the time of the incident, in a room at Taman Kangar at approximately 3.10am in the morning on June 17.

Consequently, he was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, an offence which carries a prison sentence of between 10 and 30 years, alongside caning, upon conviction.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nabila Ahmad Poad, whilst the accused was unrepresented by legal counsel.

The court subsequently granted the accused bail at RM13,000 with one surety, under the conditions that he must report to the nearest police station monthly and is strictly prohibited from contacting the victim or prosecution witnesses until the completion of the case.

Judge Sharifah Norazlita fixed the August 14 for the mention of the case.

On July 13, the accused was detained by the police on suspicion of raping the victim and recording obscene photographs of her at a rented house in Taman Kangar.

Kangar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop, previously reported that the accused was apprehended following a police report lodged by the victim regarding the incident. - July 17, 2026
