THE Sessions Court today acquitted and discharged Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad of three charges of abetting her late husband in obtaining RM2.8 million in bribes linked to Felcra Bhd's RM150 million unit trust investment.

Sessions Court Judge Rosli Ahmad read out the verdict at the end of the defence case at 9.30 am.

Zizie Izette, 47, wife of former Kinabatangan Member of Parliament the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, faces three counts of abetting her husband to obtain bribes totalling RM2.8 million.

The defence team closed its case after Zizie Izette finished giving her defence statement on March 5, while Bung Moktar gave his statement on Sept 2, 2025, after the couple failed to challenge the Court of Appeal's decision ordering them to defend themselves.

The Court of Appeal decided on November 18, 2024, after allowing the prosecution's appeal against the couple's acquittal by the High Court on Sept 7, 2023, which acquitted the couple of the charges.

The High Court ruled this after allowing the application of Bung Moktar and Zizie Izette to review the Sessions Court's decision on September 2, 2022, which ordered them to enter their defence on the charges.

However, on January 16, the Sessions Court acquitted Bung Moktar of all three charges after the prosecution decided not to proceed with the case against the former politician, who died on December 5, 2025.

On September 2, 2022, Sessions Court Judge Rozina Ayob ordered Bung Moktar and Zizie Izette to enter their defence on all three charges after deciding that the prosecution had successfully proven a prima facie case against them.

Zizie Izette was charged with abetting Bung Moktar, who was then the Non-Executive Chairman of Felcra Berhad, by obtaining a bribe of RM2.2 million from Public Mutual Berhad investment agent Madhi Abdul Hamid.

The money was allegedly paid as a bribe for her husband to obtain approval from the Minister of Finance II for Felcra Berhad to invest RM150 million to participate in Public Mutual Berhad unit trust products.

For the second charge, Zizie Izette is accused of abetting Bung Moktar to obtain a bribe of RM262,500 from Madhi through a Public Islamic Treasures Growth Fund (PITGF) account registered in her name for the same purpose.

She is also accused of abetting her husband to obtain a bribe of RM337,500 from another Public Mutual Berhad investment agent, Norhaili Ahmad Mokhtar, through a Public Ittikal Sequel Fund (PITSEQ) account registered in her name for the same purpose.

All the offences were allegedly committed at Public Bank Berhad, Taman Melawati Branch here on June 12 and June 19, 2015, under Section 28(1)(c) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine of five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted. – July 20, 2026
