94kg female tiger caught in Perhilitan trap

A FEMALE tiger weighing 94 kilograms was successfully captured after entering a trap set by the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) near Hulu Kinta yesterday.

The animal was discovered at around 12:40 p.m. when it entered the trap set in a private cattle area near the Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Ipoh Campus.

Perak Perhilitan Director, Mohd Taufik Abdul Rahman, said the trap installation operation had been carried out since July 17.

It followed a complaint from the owner of the cattle who claimed that his livestock was being disturbed by the presence of the wild animal.

“The female tiger is estimated to be no more than 10 years old and is in good health, with only minor injuries on her face.

"The tiger will be sent to the Wildlife Conservation Centre in Sungkai for further action," he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Taufik advised the public not to take action themselves if faced with a situation involving wildlife.

He said that any complaints related to wildlife should be channelled to the department for further action.

“Residents are also advised not to injure or kill wildlife because injured animals can become more aggressive and dangerous to humans,” he said. – July 24, 2026
