PRIME Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, strongly condemned the use of racist rhetoric in politics, describing it as an insult to human dignity and contrary to the spirit of unity and the Federal Constitution.
He stressed that Malaysia has been independent for almost 70 years and the people need to be more mature by accepting the fact that every citizen, regardless of race, is part of the big Malaysian family.
“There are still some saying 'Chinese back to China, Indians back to India'. That is insulting to us.
“If I ask an Indian, if he goes back to India, does he know where he is going? He doesn't know.
"All he knows is this is his country," he said during a campaign speech yesterday.
According to Anwar, recognition of the rights of people from all races does not mean rejecting or eroding the position of the Malays as enshrined in the Constitution.
He stated that the position of Islam as the religion of the Federation, the institution of the Malay Rulers, the Malay Language as the national language, and the special rights of the Malays and Bumiputeras remain preserved. At the same time, the Constitution guarantees the rights of all Malaysians regardless of race.
"The Constitution also guarantees that Malaysians from all races should be embraced as one family. We must give them recognition.
"Recognition of all of that does not mean rejecting anyone. The position of the Malays is still guaranteed," he said.
Anwar said that efforts to defend the rights of the Indian and Chinese communities have never aimed to degrade the position of the Malays or change the basis of the country's Constitution.
On the contrary, he stressed that politics that arouse sentiments of hatred between races only aim to gain narrow support and do not bring benefits to the country.
"If Malays want to succeed, Malays must have principles, be educated and be good examples.
"Do not insult people, be fair and just. The Prophet Muhammad SAW is the best example, not because he is an Arab, but because he is the best example of a human being," he said.
Anwar also stressed that he wants to be remembered as a Prime Minister who is fair and loves all people, regardless of their racial or religious background.
"I try my best to be a good Prime Minister, who is fair, who takes care of everyone and loves the people. I want the people to love me, not because I am Malay, but because I am fair to everyone," he said. – July 30, 2026
