SABAH Electricity Sdn Bhd (Sabah Electricity) has assured authorities of its full cooperation in the investigation into the electrocution that claimed the lives of three Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel in Weston, Beaufort, on Thursday.
The utility company also extended its condolences to the families of the victims and to the entire Royal Malaysia Police force over the tragic loss.
In a statement issued on Thursday night, Sabah Electricity said its technical team was dispatched to the scene immediately upon receiving information about the incident to ensure the affected area was safe.
The company added that it is working closely with the police and other relevant agencies as investigations into the incident continue.
“At this time, the actual cause of the incident remains under investigation. The public is advised not to engage in any speculation that could interfere with the investigation process.
“Sabah Electricity is committed to providing full cooperation to the authorities until the investigation is completed and will take the appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation,” the statement said.
The three victims were identified as personnel from the Weston Police Station: Corporal Chiu Teck Siong, 40, Lance Corporal Mohamad Nur Hafiz Ibrahim, 29, and Lance Corporal Muhammad Raimi Ismarubee, 26.
Meanwhile, three hearses carrying the bodies of the police personnel arrived at the Forensic Department of Queen Elizabeth Hospital I (HQE I) in Kota Kinabalu at 1.10am today.
The convoy was escorted by several Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) multi-purpose patrol vehicles from the Beaufort, Papar, Penampang and Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters.
The bodies were transported from Beaufort Hospital to HQE I to undergo post-mortem examinations and complete the necessary documentation before being released to their next of kin.
Once all procedures have been completed, the bodies will be escorted by police officers from the Beaufort District Police Headquarters back to their respective hometowns for funeral arrangements.
Earlier, in the 5.50pm incident, the three officers were pronounced dead after they were believed to have been electrocuted while moving a long metal pole used to harvest coconuts outside the Weston Police Station near Weston National School (SK Weston).
Preliminary investigations found that the metal pole came into contact with a main power line, causing an electrical current to pass through the pole and electrocute all three officers. - August 7, 2026
