PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim turns 79 today, with his birthday providing an opportunity to reflect on his long political journey and continuing role in steering Malaysia through a period of economic and geopolitical change.
Since becoming Prime Minister in November 2022, Anwar has placed emphasis on strengthening the economy, improving governance, widening social protection and promoting national unity through his Malaysia MADANI framework.
His administration has also prioritised attracting investment, strengthening Malaysia’s position in the regional economy and ensuring that economic growth translates into broader benefits for the people.
In a new development, his birthday this year comes as Anwar undergoes medical examinations and procedures prescribed by a team of medical specialists.
In a statement, his senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said the Prime Minister was expected to remain under medical observation for two days.

“YAB Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is undergoing examinations and procedures prescribed by the team of medical specialists. He is expected to remain under observation for two days.”
Tunku Nashrul also called on Malaysians to pray for Anwar’s health and for his medical procedures to proceed smoothly.
“Let us pray that all matters relating to YAB Prime Minister’s examinations and procedures are made easier and that he is blessed with lasting good health so that he can return to carrying out his duties as usual in the near future, God willing.”
As he marks another year, Anwar’s birthday is being observed against the backdrop of Malaysia’s continued efforts to strengthen economic resilience, national unity and effective governance amid an increasingly challenging global environment.
Messages of goodwill are expected to centre on hopes for the Prime Minister’s continued health, strength and determination as he carries on with his responsibilities in leading the country. - August 10, 2026
