THE use of the Jalur Gemilang without the crescent moon and star symbols at Dataran Batu Buruk, which went viral last Friday, was not done intentionally.
Terengganu Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, described the incident that went viral on social media last Friday as an isolated and unintentional case.
"It was not intentional and an isolated incident. We will conduct an investigation and ensure that the matter does not happen again, regardless of who installed it," he said.
Mayor of the Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT), Lizan Che Mat, said that the Jalur Gemilang actually had the crescent moon and star symbols, but that part had come off due to the stitching process.
"Following the incident, we took immediate action by taking down the flag last Friday and replacing it with the new Jalur Gemilang.
"The old flag did not have the crescent moon and stars; we just sewed it, and the side part was torn off due to the strong storm that day," he said.
Earlier, a video went viral on social media showing the Jalur Gemilang being installed in Batu Buruk, without the crescent moon and stars, sparking widespread attention and debate among netizens. – August 10, 2026
