PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to meet Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in Bandar Seri Begawan next week, as he resumes official engagements following a successful medical procedure.
Anwar said he had received a telephone call from the Brunei monarch, who enquired about his health and prayed for his wellbeing.
“His Majesty graciously enquired about my well-being and prayed for my health and welfare.
“I am deeply grateful for His Majesty’s prayers and concern. I, too, pray that His Majesty will always be blessed with good health and remain under the protection and mercy of Allah SWT,” he said in a Facebook post today.
“Insya-Allah, I will have an audience with His Majesty next week in Bandar Seri Begawan in conjunction with the 27th Annual Leaders’ Consultation between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.”
The 27th Annual Leaders’ Consultation (ALC) is the highest-level bilateral mechanism between Malaysia and Brunei, providing a platform for the two leaders to review existing cooperation, discuss emerging issues and exchange views on regional and international matters of mutual interest.
The meeting will take place shortly after Anwar underwent an elective laparoscopic procedure on Aug 10 to treat an abdominal hernia.
Chief of the Prime Minister’s Medical Team, Datuk Dr Asri Rangga Abdullah Ramaiah, said the procedure was carried out successfully under the care of a team of medical specialists.
Anwar’s Senior Press Secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, had earlier said the Prime Minister underwent a medical examination and would remain under observation for two days. - August 12, 2026
