AN 11-year-old boy who went missing while attending a tahfiz programme was found dead in a pond near a foundation centre in Kampung Kapal here, with police believing he may have drowned.

Nilai district police chief Superintendent Johari Yahya said police received a report about the boy’s disappearance at 12.28am today before a search operation was launched with the cooperation of relevant agencies around the area.

“The victim was found in a pond near the scene in a weak condition and resuscitation was administered before further examination was carried out.

“However, the victim was pronounced dead by a medical officer from Lenggeng Health Clinic,” he said in a statement today.

Johari said the boy’s remains were taken to the Forensic Department of Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

He said police were continuing their investigation to establish the exact chronology and circumstances of the incident, including whether there was any element of negligence or other contributing factors.

“The classification of the case will be determined based on the overall findings of the investigation and the post-mortem report,” he said.

Johari also urged the public not to speculate about the incident, warning that such speculation could interfere with the investigation, while calling for the privacy of the victim’s family to be respected.

Members of the public with information about the incident are urged to assist the investigation by contacting the Nilai District Police Headquarters operations room at 06-7904222 or any nearby police station. - August 23, 2026
