DATUK Seri Anwar Ibrahim has vowed to press ahead with efforts to reform and transform Malaysia, drawing on the leadership of Prophet Muhammad SAW (PBUH) as a guide in confronting the challenges of building a modern, multiracial nation.
In a Facebook post marking Maulidur Rasul, the Prime Minister said the Prophet’s struggle to establish a new administration in the Arabian region more than 14 centuries ago remained relevant to the pursuit of justice, social stability, economic fairness and national unity today.
He said building a plural society in 21st-century Southeast Asia was no easy task, given the political complexities and challenges facing the region, but pledged to continue pursuing change and islah (reformation) for as long as he had the strength and opportunity to do so.
“Today, I recall the sirah (teachings and practices)and the arduous struggles of Prophet Muhammad SAW in establishing a new administration in the Arabian region more than 14 centuries ago.
“After a decade of tireless efforts at islah, Madinah, which the Prophet nurtured through an order founded on justice and compassion, succeeded in producing a people of wisdom and high moral character.
“Indeed, the paradigm of syariah transformed their character and outlook through greater consciousness of God and social maturity,” he said.
Anwar said the resolution of longstanding conflict between the Aus and Khazraj tribes in Yathrib demonstrated the importance of unity in securing stability and overcoming divisions that could obstruct progress.
“The sharp conflict between the Aus and Khazraj, which had long shaken Yathrib, was dissolved through the spirit of Ansar unity for the sake of stability, eliminating suspicion and anxiety among the communities that had hindered progress.
“Is not the word of Allah SWT a clear guide: ‘He who gives them food to relieve hunger and gives them security against fear.’ (Surah Quraysh, verse 4)
“Basic needs must be guaranteed, and genuine security is of paramount importance. This conviction is a condition for safeguarding the daruriyat (Protection of life) in Maqasid Syariah, as expressed by Muhammad Imarah.
“In the compassionate Madinatun Nabi, the poor were assisted, the weak were cared for, and those who were different were each given space.
“Monopolistic practices were cast aside in favour of a more equitable distribution of economic opportunities, while envoys were sent out carrying the message of building a more peaceful and just order,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the Prophet’s strategies continued to offer valuable lessons, particularly in the pursuit of peace, justice and prosperity within a diverse society.
“Today, the Prophet’s strategies remain a reference. Certainly, it is not easy to build a multiracial country in 21st-century Southeast Asia amid all its turmoil and political complexities.
“Nevertheless, we will continue striving, for as long as strength and time remain, to bring about change and islah using the authority entrusted to us by Allah SWT,” he said.
Anwar said every leader naturally sought the best possible future for the people, adding that he shared the same aspiration for all Malaysians.
“Every leader surely desires the best for all the people, and I am no different. May Allah SWT continue to bless our homeland, and may its people be showered with love and blessed sustenance.

The Prime Minister’s Maulidur Rasul message underscored the principles of justice, compassion, economic fairness, social inclusion and security, which he said had been central to the Prophet’s efforts to build a stable and prosperous society in Madinah. - August 25, 2026
