AN e-hailing driver was charged in the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today with attempting to murder a number forecast outlet worker by allegedly setting her on fire, leaving her with serious third-degree burn injuries.
Ang Kam Tong, 59, pleaded not guilty to attempting to kill Gan Siew Teen, 62, by allegedly using petrol to set her ablaze at a number forecast outlet in Taman Pusat Kepong in Kuala Lumpur at 7.51am on Aug 9.
“Not guilty,” he said from the dock after the charge was read before Sessions Court Judge Datin Surita Budin.
Ang was charged under Section 307(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Shakila Mohd Shariff opposed bail, arguing that the accused had caused the victim serious third-degree burn injuries and had allegedly attempted to flee when he was arrested.
Defence counsel Lee Keng Fatt, representing Ang, however, urged the court to grant bail.
“The accused is an e-hailing driver with no fixed income, is unmarried and has siblings who may be able to stand as surety for him,” he said.
The court subsequently granted Ang bail of RM15,000 with one surety.
The case has been fixed for mention on Sept 25 for the submission of documents. - August 24, 2026
