THE Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji should not be treated as a political instrument to secure findings favourable to any party, PKR Youth chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said as he questioned demands by Perikatan Nasional (PN) and UMNO for a fresh investigation.
He said the RCI was established to uncover the truth based on facts, documents and evidence, rather than produce conclusions that corresponded with the political interests of any particular party.
Muhammad Kamil said the RCI whose report was made public last month was not established by the Madani Government, but originated during the previous administration, when those now calling for a fresh investigation were themselves part of the government.
“When the RCI findings did not favour their political narrative, suddenly they wanted a new RCI. What exactly do they want? Every time an investigation does not produce a decision that meets their political wishes, should another RCI be established until a decision they like is reached?” he said in a statement.
He said any party disputing the findings should produce evidence rather than reject the report simply because its conclusions did not align with their political interests.
“If there is genuinely new evidence, present it. If there are factual discrepancies, show them. If there were errors in the investigation process, explain them openly. That is how a mature democracy functions, not by demanding that an RCI be repeated simply because one is dissatisfied with its findings,” he said.
Muhammad Kamil also questioned the decision by PN lawmakers to leave the Dewan Rakyat when the RCI report was tabled on Aug 12, despite being given the opportunity to hear and scrutinise its findings.
“Today, when the RCI findings do not favour them, they are demanding that a new RCI be established. This raises a major question: do they genuinely want to seek the truth, or do they simply want an outcome that fits their political narrative?” he said.
He said all parties should refrain from turning Tabung Haji into a political tool to protect the interests of particular individuals or groups, stressing that the institution was entrusted with the savings of millions of depositors.
Muhammad Kamil said the Madani Government was not afraid of the truth and that any weaknesses or breaches of the law should be addressed through appropriate action.
“I urge PN and UMNO to stop playing with national institutions for political interests. If they truly want to defend Tabung Haji, then defend it with facts, evidence and sound arguments,” he said.
The RCI report, published on July 29, outlined a range of findings concerning the management and governance of Tabung Haji between 2014 and 2020. - August 26, 2026
