THREE passengers were injured after an express bus carrying 12 people veered off the North-South Expressway while attempting to avoid a slow-moving lorry near here early this morning.

The bus was travelling from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur when the accident occurred at about 5am at Kilometre 177.6 of the PLUS highway, heading north.

Jasin district police chief Superintendent Lee Robert said preliminary investigations found that the lorry ahead of the bus had slowed down.

“The bus driver tried to avoid hitting the lorry before veering off the road to the left,” he said.

Lee said the 31-year-old bus driver was unhurt.

A 59-year-old male passenger, who was also a tour guide, suffered a leg injury and was treated in the green zone of Jasin Hospital.

“Two other female passengers, aged 62 and 46, sustained head injuries and were also treated at the same hospital.

“Eight other passengers were not injured,” he said in a statement today.

Police have opened an investigation under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - August 26, 2026
