A FORMER childcare worker has been charged with allegedly abusing a two-year-old girl in Mentakab last month in a case involving possible emotional injury.

Nor Ain Ashikin Husin, 26, pleaded not guilty to the charge before Sessions Court Judge Jamaludin Mat.

She was accused of abusing the girl in a manner that could have caused her emotional injury at a childcare centre in Jalan Keramat Indah, Mentakab, at about 9.45am on Aug 11.

Nor Ain was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Khairunnisa Zaffar proposed bail of RM10,000 with one surety and also sought additional conditions preventing the accused from contacting or interfering with the victim and prosecution witnesses.

Lawyer Mohd Falihin Kamil Mohamed Sazali, representing Nor Ain, urged the court to reduce the bail, saying she had no previous criminal record and had cooperated with police throughout the investigation.

He said she had not attempted to flee or obstruct the investigation and posed no flight risk as she was married and lived in Temerloh with her husband and mother.

The lawyer said Nor Ain previously earned about RM1,500 a month but was now unemployed, while her family could only raise RM5,000 for bail.

The court granted bail at RM5,000 with one surety.

It also ordered Nor Ain not to contact or interfere with the victim or prosecution witnesses and to report to the nearest police station once a month.

The case was fixed for mention on Oct 14, 2026. - September 9, 2026
