A PROCLAMATION purportedly seeking to remove Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir is invalid and cannot take effect, the Undang Luak Sungei Ujong said today.
Datuk Klana Petra Muhammad Faris Johari Meor Ngah said the document, signed by Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim on August 3 in Port Dickson, had no legal effect.
He said the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang, which met on July 31 at Istana Besar Seri Menanti in Kuala Pilah, had determined that a declaration dated April 19 had no legal standing as it did not comply with the requirements of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution 1959.
Faris also questioned the authority of three of the four Undang who had sought to remove Tuanku Muhriz, saying they had lost their status as ruling chiefs under the customary laws of their respective luaks.
“Any matter concerning the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan must have our consent as Imam of the Undang Yang Empat,” he said.
The statement comes amid a growing dispute within Negeri Sembilan’s traditional ruling institution over Tuanku Muhriz’s position.
Earlier reports said the crisis could escalate after the Undang Yang Empat, including the Undang whose position has been disputed, produced a document purportedly showing the proclamation removing Tuanku Muhriz.
The document, said to carry Ismail’s signature, was shown to reporters during a press conference at the Tuanku Jaafar Royal Gallery on Tuesday night. - September 9, 2026
