JOHOR recorded 823 domestic violence cases in the first seven months of this year, surpassing the 518 cases reported for the whole of 2025, Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Lim Hui Ying said today.
She said 4,646 domestic violence cases were recorded nationwide from January to July, highlighting the need to strengthen prevention, early intervention and access to support services.
“Domestic violence does not only involve physical abuse, but can also take the form of emotional, psychological, sexual and financial abuse, including controlling a person’s movements and relationships, which now increasingly extends into the digital space.
“It often begins with behaviour considered normal, such as excessive control, threats or humiliation. Therefore, society needs to be alert to the early warning signs before the situation becomes more serious,” she said.
Lim said this when officiating the Aku Wanita @ Domestic Violence Advocacy and Well-being Programme and PRISMAnita Johor Open Day 2026, organised by the Women’s Development Department (JPW), in Seri Alam in Johor Bharu today.
To improve women’s access to assistance, she said the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry had established PRISMAnita — an intermediary service for referral, intervention, support, information and advocacy for women.
“PRISMAnita was launched by the Prime Minister on March 10 to connect women with government services and relevant agencies more quickly, systematically and in a customer-friendly manner.
“As of last August, 117 clients had received services through PRISMAnita @ PPWN (State Women’s Development Office) nationwide,” she said.
